Yoga and the Mind

The spiritual connection between the mind, the soul and the body comes to life during yoga.

I have only been doing yoga for a short while now, since quarantine I would say. I am by no means an expert, but I think that it is a sport that one can do without any prior knowledge. I am lost in the rhythm of the movements and forget of the stresses that come with being a teenager. To be honest I got into yoga for that very reason. I have a hard time calming my nerves, thus I find it to be rather therapeutic in that sense. I find myself completely and utterly relaxed after a yoga session.
I know you probably think of how ferly it is for someone young to be practicing yoga on a regular basis, after all only old people do it right? None of my classmates in fact practice yoga, a friend of mine said that she too tried yoga and found no benefits whatsoever, the words she used were "I wanted to tear my arm off, just so that I'd have something to do." Yes, you guessed it, she is a bit of a drama queen.
Anyhow, have you ever noticed that the image you picture when you think of yoga is a figure in a sitting position with pinched fingers and eyes closed (pictured below). As a matter of fact, when you look up "yoga" on Google it is among the first photographs you come across.

Thus, most people deem it as frivolous, not understanding that certainly there is more to yoga than just meditation. I don't mean this to sound like a persuasive piece, I merely want to clarify a few common misconceptions and especially share my experience. That is what people do on blogs after all, right?
Yoga is my "distacco" from reality and a beautiful vehicle I use to collect my thoughts. I am not one that does hard core exercises with weights and such, my body is not built for it. It is selcouth really that I enjoy such a demanding exercise as yoga, but I suppose I enjoy it for its elegant nature, it is almost musical to me.
I have always treated my body with care, I take pride in knowing that I am in good health and my body is strong. Many kids my age throw that away for recreational activities such as drinking and smoking, and perhaps laugh at the idea of responsible care of one's body.
“To keep the body in good health is a duty, for otherwise we shall not be able to trim the lamp of wisdom, and keep our mind strong and clear.” -Buddha
Yoga can help maintain the healthy lifestyle we were born to live, before industrial products and pollutants that we inevitably place into our bodies. I think of yoga as a lovely trouvaille. Maybe try it out or give it another shot, it could be yours too.
