Absolutely Horrific

Just today my friends shared a video with me posted by "earthmood" on Instagram. In the clip shown to me, I encountered horrific imagery. Videos of seals being beaten, skinned alive, dragged and shot left me paralysed with disbelief. How did I not know this was going on? Why is this "commercial sea hunt" permitted in Canada?

Just reading up on it I discovered that fishermen receive very little money as a result of this activity seeing as there is only a small market for seal fur and an even smaller market for seal oil. This led me to believe that those going out and participating in this inhuman activity were mostly doing it for... sport.

Humans have certainly taken a turn for the worse when it comes to mistreating animals, from using them to test our skincare products to injecting ducks and geese by gavage to produce foie gras for "luxury" dinner meals. All of this has to stop. How can we live in such a manner? Completely disregarding any sense of empathy and decency towards animals is absolutely unacceptable.

Under the video most comments were representing an overwhelming sense of shock and disbelief, similar to what I felt, but then there were others. People commenting the laughing emoji, those claiming that the fishermen need the money to feed themselves, and others generalising this issue by equating the killing of a seal to the killing of an insect. Honestly, I was appalled, and you should be too.

Whoever is reading this, as well as the rest of the world honestly, has a responsibility to our Earth and we must protect it. I encourage you to read up on this issue and I guarantee it will affect you just as it did me. Please spread the word and help stop this barbaric behavior.

Ask Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, to end commercial seal hunt.
