This summer, my sisters and I kept running into this construction site on East 48th St. and

Madison Ave. Its skeleton structure became a familiar friend to us when we

ended up lost a few times. I jotted down a little poem I hope you will enjoy.

Welcome new building,

I know you feel small,

But soon you’ll grow up,

And surpass them all.

You’ve just been born,

With the help of a crew

Utilising reusable parts

From your ancestors, too.

Steel for your frame,

Recycled just for you,

Is just as strong,

As when it was new.

No trees have been cut down,

To make wood for your floor,

Our trees are too precious,

We don’t do that anymore.

Sustainable is the new word,

In construction these days,

We throw away nothing,

We’ve changed our old ways.

So, smile dear building,

Enjoy your new start,

You’re energy efficient, eco-friendly,

Some will say, “You’re Smart”.

These are my hopes,

Of what this building will be,

Now it’s up to us,

To make this a reality.
